Oh, how I love Harry Potter pick-up lines. Anywhoo, I thought I would just do my review on Where the Wild Things are. So here we go~
This movie was really good. Like I wouldn't mind watching it again. Of course I started to sob in the theater. I have to stop making that a habit. But it was sad, and it made me want to be a kid again. I am a little rusty on the book, but I think it was an accurate portrayal of the characters. Since it was a "kids" movie, I was left a little confused. Because there are many parts in the movie, where the kid Max, or the monsters could have died. But I guess that says that we as a society are so pessimistic, and children don't think of death. Also there was a lot of violence. There weren't any guns, but at one point there was a "war" and they were throwing dirt balls, and Max told one of the monsters "To knock his legs out." Instantly, some pretty brutal imagery came to mind but thankgoodness not to screen. But if stuff like that doesn't phase you, then I recommend you going to go see it. It was a really great movie, but the ending is sad. And that was where I did most of my sobbing. Don't worry, no one died, well maybe someone's arm...but I am not going to talk about that.
Where the Wild Things are, was a beautifully profound movie, and I recommend you to go see it. It gets an 8.5/10 because not a lot of things were explained, and I was really confused. But hey, the little kid who plays Max was adorable.
So I got a little feedback on my blog, and people were saying that is was so long. But I care for the ten people who are actually reading this, and hence the titles.
Life
So it has been a week and I haven’t been up to too much, just school. So Math was driving me insane because my teacher wasn’t exactly helpful, but then everything was cleared up today. I love, love, love my peace and gender studies class, specifically my teacher. She is so adorable, and I know it’s weird to say that seeing as she is around 3 times my age, but still, if I had to say who I admire, I’d say her. She has lived/ is still living a very charmed life, she is very privileged, and I hope to get where she is some day. Oh, so currently I am taking Accounting, and so all the business classes get to take part in the Nipissing Stock Game. It is so difficult. I am totally new to it, and no one wants to help you out. The weird bit is, we’re going to be getting a mark on it, and the teacher just doesn’t want to help you. Well all I can say is, no wonder people go bankrupt when the play the stocks, because it’s so addicting. I may not be in the top 10, but I am doing alright. At least my portfolio return is in the positives again. It’s so fun, and you’re probably thinking, how is stock fun?! Well since it’s a competition, you obviously want to be good and have a high rank. My rank ranges from 300-1000. But I am content with that. So I realized that love plays a large role in my life, and I haven’t really mentioned it in my blog. So I am so excited to talk about it. But I am going to get to some other stuff before.
FASHION
Dos and Don’ts
So I saw that girl I mentioned previously again, and she is just making me confused. I think she doesn’t have a legit sense of style, because one day she is all gangster, the next day she is wearing leggings. Yeah, so I guess I am not going to make fun of her as much, because she is trying. Though here’s a DONT, she loads on the makeup. OMG, speaking of makeup, I have a new person to talk about. So she is a niner at the school, and I swear every time I go in the bathroom, she is there piling on the makeup. It’s not her, she definitely gets it from her mom. But I swear, the mean side of me just wants to go up to her and be like, you don’t need all that makeup, ‘cause it’s not helping. I know, not everyone can be as beautiful as I am and not need to wear makeup, kidding. But still, she does not need to wear all of that. So yeah, here is a DO, minimal makeup. I probably mentioned this before, but it’s necessary.
MEDIA
Speaking of fashion, America’s Next Top Model (ANTM)
So if you haven’t been following, this cycle, Tyra decided to get girls that were only 5’7” or under. And when I heard, I was like, wow, I definitely should be on there. So here’s a little recap of what happened two nights ago... so on Wednesday. The girls had to do a commercial for Cover Girl, and my favourite ones were from Jen—the only asian on there, and Sundai—the shortest one aka. My height. Jen looked so cute and natural, and Sundai was really funny and adorable. What shocked me was the commercial from the giraffe girl—Nicole. She looked like she had some life in her...but I think that was just the makeup. Good job guys! Also in this episode we find out that Laura is dyslexic, “Severely Dyslexic.” So she did have a little trouble memorizing her script, but she pulled through, and I really want her to make Top 5, she has a great personality. Erin, before the makeover, I thought she looked like Emma Watson, and she actually was going to be my favourite, but her personality is not likeable. In the challenge she kept crying, and getting frustrated. But still, they decided to keep her over Rae. Rae is just a natural beauty, and her personality is so lovely, this may be because she is a mother, but I think she should have stayed instead of Erin. Oh, then we have the mathematician Brittany. She is totally hated. She is really serious, and her face is kinda starting to creep me out. Plus she did horrible in the challenge, and was really robotic. I don’t think she is an amazing model, but I have a feeling she is going to make it far in the competition. Can’t wait to see how the girls are doing next week!
The Vampire Diaries.
Is it just me, or is this show amazing? I first hear of it, from my ELLE Canada magazine. I decided to watch it though because it had the girl Nina Dobrev in it from Degrassi. She’s the girl who plays the mother model. Yeah so I am disappointed because last week, the episode was great, though there was no episode this week. For the people who have the CW channel, they are living the good life because their season is further ahead. Well the episode is with some Halloween Party. Oh, they are probably saving it for next week. So last night they showed the first episode or something. Well I am so into this show now, and screw Twilight... well specifically Stephenie Meyer.
Twilight the Saga: New Moon
OMG, it is so coming out next month. You’re probably thinking that I am such a hypocrite. But I LOVE TAYLOR LAUTNER, aka the guy who plays Jacob Black. Well I love Jacob Black too. Anyways, I am so going to go see it after school if I can get tickets. I don’t want to be annoyed by screaming fan girls. Or else I will get so pissed. So maybe I’ll wait. But I am soooo excited. Every time I see a trailer, I scream.
Where the Wild Things are
Wow, I seem to have a giant Media section here. So tomorrow I am going to go see Where the Wild Things are. It is such a classic book, so hopefully it’ll be a classic movie. I believe that even if it’s a “kid” movie there will be some elements in it that only more intellectual people (adults) will be able to understand. So next week, or if I just feel like typing, I will put my review up.
News
This week I think, was a big week for Balloon Boy. And if you have no idea who or what I am talking about. This video will help.
So obviously everyone was freaked out, because they wanted to know if this kid was actually inside. Turns out that he wasn’t in there, but hiding in the attic. And this whole thing was just a publicity stunt. Now I am no expert on parenting, but these guys are whack. But kids often tell the truth, and Falcon here admits that this balloon stunt was for the show.
Well, my take on this is these people are kinda strange. I think there is something wrong with their heads. The dad Richard looks like a psycho killer. The mom just looks out of it. And the kids, well I feel sorry for them. So this was one of those 15 minutes of fame situations. And now I think there are charges being pressed on the family, since it was a hoax. Though on the the bright side. We get to see all of these crazy songs like these.
Oh and I know this blog entry is definitely getting long. But there are so many things that happen in a week that I just need to mention them. So I was watching What The Buck, and I saw the two cutest guys ever. They are twins, but they can’t sing to save their life. But they are so cute. Buck made fun of them though, because they seem incest. If you watch the video you’ll see why. But anyways, I enjoyed them, even if they do need haircuts. Can you tell which one is cuter?
And make sure you youtube Miss Swan, she is so funny.
LA-LA-LA-LOVE
So this is what you’re probably looking forward to. And I am going to try to keep it short. Now if you were to ask me if I had ever had a boyfriend, my response would be no. If you were going to ask me out, I would still say no (depending on whom you are.) This summer, I saw the most beautiful guy ever. And I sound really shallow. But he was amazing. I literally said damn when I saw him. Of course I didn’t even talk to him, because I was there for two seconds, but I went home and told my friend about him, and it was the best thing ever. She went and talked to him for me. So now I am super hung over this guy, and I just can’t seem to find myself attracted to anyone else. Yeah he was that perfect. Well I would love to talk about this adventure more, but this blog is already long.
Alright, so it’s been a week, and now it’s time for me to rant about a tonne of stuff that I have had on my mind lately. I am going to divide it up into sections, so it’ll be easier for you to follow/read whatever part you want. So let’s begin.
Personal Advice
So something totally funny happened last week, and it great that I have friends who love me. So this is what happened. So I was wearing this cute black dress—this is key in the story. Anyway, I go to my 3rd class, and then sit down in my usual seat. But then when I went to get up I got stuck. So I was like, what the hell? Then I check my bottom, and noticed something white on it. I thought it was masking tape, though when I went to remove it, it was gooey. It was gum; chewed gum... which was stuck to my butt. So then I started to freak out, because I still had another class to go to, and gum takes a while to get rid of. So then my friend beside me asks what’s wrong. I replied “I have gum, stuck to my BUTT!” She of course started to laugh a little, and then rushes to my teacher and tells him we have a mini crisis. So obviously I grab the back of my dress, and we hurry to the bathroom. So my lovely, dear, sweet, and amazing friend picks off the gum from the back of my dress. The situation was less disgusting because we were laughing our heads off. Anyways, we went down to the office to get a safety pin, and covered the giant white splotch on the back of the dress, and then I survived the next hour or so.
I didn’t think I was going to actually get the gum out because the dress was made out of cotton. So I tried the method of putting ice on it—though it didn’t really work. So then I stuck it in the freezer, and that didn’t work really. But then my dad decided to help me out. And we tried vegetable oil. It was like magic. The gum came right off. So other people may say the freezer trick would work, but it wouldn’t, unless you keep the whole blob of gum on the clothing. So yeah, Vegetable oil works, and then wash it after. Though I haven’t tried this method on coloured clothing, so be wary. Though it did work on my black dress, and there is no oil stain, :)
FASHION
Alright, so this section is going to include a bunch of stuff.
First of all, I would like to say that I am addicted to ELLE Canada. So last week my friend (she got me the subscription) told me she received her November issue. And I was like, Oh, well I didn’t get mine. So when I went home I checked my mailbox, but no magazine. Then a few days later, I still hadn’t gotten it. This started to worry me, because there is no way that my two year subscription was over, it hasn’t even been a year yet. So then I sent an email to them, because I was totally worried. I checked my account and it said I didn’t even have a current subscription. But luckily, the next day I got my magazine, :D so all the worrying for nothing. Oh, and my November issue here has a very nice colour scheme, so I am going to use it on my blog.
In my little city here, there are a lot of Fashionistas. I love it. I just love people who follow fashion trends. I wish I could be that person, but fashion can get costy. Personally, I don’t even have a job, so the pieces I have in my wardrobe will last you a long time. Here are some things that are must haves and won’t cost you that much.
1.So the number one item is jeans. Whether it be skinny jeans or flares (not the ones from the 70s) jeans are a must have. And you don’t even need that many pairs. If you take care of your clothes, they will last you forever! This will only be really effective if you’re not growing anymore; your size is the same. Oh, and I am not talking about $100 jeans. My jeans I wear cost 20 bucks. This is key when it comes to affordable fashion.
2.One tone shirts. These shirts are so timeless and they will never go out of style. They can be T-shirts, long sleeves, anything.
3.If you’re going for a classy look, skirts are a must-have. Again, one toned, so that you can wear them time and time again. You shouldn’t be spending more than 30 bucks, depending on your budget.
4.Dresses! Ah, dresses, I remember the time I would never be caught dead in one, but now I want more! There are so many types of dresses, just pick one that works for you. And you can find one under 30 dollars.
5.CARDIGANS. They used to be meant for your grandmother, and now you can’t get enough of them. Cardigans are so versatile, and you can wear one with anything. They look especially cute when paired with a little dress and tights, with ankle booties! <3 (this is my new fave look) I have like three cardigans, each one was under 20 dollars, ;)
6.Everyone has those days when they don’t want to waste time looking for something to wear. This is where the hoodie comes into play. Hoodies don’t have to be big, and ugly, and gangster. You can get a cute one toned one, and wear them over anything, without looking awful. There is nothing wrong with plain clothing.
7.Chic graphic tees. I try to cut back on wearing T-shirts because they are so casual. Though if you find the right one, you’ll look amazing. I suggest going to Jacob Connexion, they have really cute clothing there and it should be under 30 dollars, though if it’s just a T-shirt, don’t waste your money, I would pay like 15 dollars.
8.And one last thing. Camis are really cute, and the right one will look amazing under a cardigan or a hoodie. Make sure you get one without the 4 inches of lace on the bottom. Those are dated.
Voila! 8 must have pieces for your wardrobe. And remember, don’t forget the accessories! Oh and before I forget, some great places to shop for these are at: Winners, American Eagle (SALES RACK), Cost Blanca, Urban Planet, everywhere, just look out for those deals!
DO
Things that are in right now are leather jackets. A tailored one vs. The baggy biker one is amazing for the weather we’re having right now. Pair it with some suede or leather booties, and you’re set. The whole look which is in is a rocker-chic, so lots of black. It’s attitude, not emo. Make-up wise, natural is the way to go. No overbearing eye makeup, just a natural look, with flushed cheeks, bronzer for that healthy glow, nude lips, and minimal mascara. Knits are also a must, they are great for the winter. A over-sized knit sweater would go great with a leather belt at the wait or hips depending on the length.
DON’T
Today when I was on the bus, I saw this girl that was clearly struggling with her look. I totally just resisted the impulse to ask her where she learned to do her make-up. Clown College? Yeah it was that bad. She totally was trying to look all gangster, but failed. The hot pink coat ruined it. Her sideways baseball hat, did not work. Her whole look was devastating. Please, please, don’t dress like that people. You’ll hurt my eyes. And more importantly, embarass yourself.
Another thing is if you’re going to choose to wear leggings, make sure you have a body to go with it, especially if you’re not covering the bottom. I have seen way too many girls do the leggings, but have a saggy bum. That is a no-no. There is nothing wrong with toning those buns for a much more appreciated look. Squats every day will help you out if you can’t make the gym.
Reviews
So I have an obsession with skin care products. I think I have spent all of my money on skin care. So here are some reviews on products I use(d).
1.Vichy NORMADERM Anti-Imperfection Hydrating Care. So the name and the ad did it for me. I went out there are bought it. So does it work? Well for the 30 dollars I spent on it, the performance is average. I have a lot of marks on my face, so I have tried everything. Let’s just say it makes an okay moisturizer, and prevents your acne. It will not however make your scars disappear. It will just make them less visible. I wouldn’t recommend you buy this product, I mean I thought it worked, but it’s okay. I do however recommend the other NORMADERM products like the astringent and the cleanser. So this product gets 5/10. It did what it was supposed to do, but I was expecting more for the amount of money I paid.
2.Bio Oil. I really like this product. It contains natural ingredients, and is like magic. I have been using it for a week or so now, and I have seen improvement. Bio Oil is used for many things like scars, stretch marks, uneven skin tone (this is important to me, since I am darker), and it hydrates skin. Bio Oil works better than the product mentioned above, and I paid around 20 dollars for it since it was on sale. So I definitely like this product. I use it on my face, and the scars are becoming less visible, and my skin just looks amazing now. I give it a 9.5/10. It’s amazing, and perfect for pregnancies... and other stuff.
Videos
Here are some things I found interesting.
AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL CYCLE 13
When I found out that this cycle was going to include petite people, I was ecstatic. I should totally be on it! Anyways for we Canadians, we can watch the episodes on CTV. They are good quality, so go here.
Also The Vampire Diaries series is also great. I totally recommend it. Though it will make you HATE Twilight. You're probably like, OMG, I can never hate Twilight?!?!? Well this will prove you wrong. Stephanie Meyer needs to get a brain. I mean I used to love Twilight, it was a cute love story, though when I started watching Vampire Diaries (which was a book created before Twilight) it showed me that she copyied the entire story. All of the ideas from Twilight, are like the same in Vampire DIaries. So awful. Plus Stephanie Meyer sucked at writing the book. And it just got even more awful as the series progressed. Huh. Well New Moon is comming out, with that amazing hottie Taylor Lautner. I am in love with him. So hands off. ;)
Well before I go into a huge rant about what this blog has, I will like to first welcome you to my very first official blog! I am so excited, and I hope to have this blog for a while, :D
I am still editing everything, like i still don't know if I should keep the name of the blog. I did want something original and creative, though I couldn't think of anything so I went with the simple "itsameliachand." When I was creating this I was just going to go with itsamelia, though that was taken from a girl who has some weight issues. Actually that was one thing I noticed, you know how there is the "Next Blog" link at the top, well I was just cruising through there and it seemed like every blog belonged to someone who was concerned about their weight. Really? There are bigger issues in the world, and why would someone even want to hear about that? Well I am going to avoid talking about my weight, even though self-image is important to me, I don't want my blog to be caterogized with those lame ones.
So this blog features some links, that I find entertaining. So right now, there are four links which consist of: "Don't Know What to Wear?" This link will take you to lookbook.nu. My friend told me about it, it is a fashionista's dream. There are tonnes and tonnes of looks that you can try out. It's great for someone to create their style, and see ways of wearing items. I was in awe when I was looking at the site, so I just thought I would share it with you. So the next link is "My Art Site." The title is pretty straight-forward it was my other unofficial blog, plus some art that I do as a hobby. Yep, so if you want to see what I have done, just go check it out. I don't update my Journal as much as I should on there, usually once a month, and it includes what I am working on, or not. Next, we have "Weird Asian News." This site I just stumbbled upon, it has a lot of interesting things; stuff you wouldn't see on the news. One story I recently read was about a woman who found a snake, with a leg. Yeah, that is pretty wierd. Go check it out. The last link there is my favourite site of all. It's linked as "When You Need a Pick-Me-Up" and no, it's not some site that you can go to purchase illegal drugs, it's called FMyLife.com. People around the world post unfortunate stories on there, and basically you go read them. It's VERY entertaining. To be honest, it will make you feel so good about yourself. Really, if you think you feel bad, and you think your life sucks, you have no idea.
So another feature of the site, is great music that I love. The playlist is located at the bottom, and will autostart as soon as you visit the site. So if you don't want the playlist to be playing music, then you can just pause or mute it. I may update the playlist every few months, so you can listen to all the great new music while reading this. So now it's time for a taste of what the furure blogs will be like... Facebook. Everyone who is Anyone has it. Same with twitter. So what's up with that? Why do we have so many social networks?
Personally, I have no idea. I have facebook, no twitter though, that is one trend I don't want to follow. Oh my Gosh! That is IT. We are like sheep. And we follow the leader. Since there are just so many people on facebook, that is why the rest of us are on it. It's some subconsicious thing we do. A majority of us can't be our own person. We need to feel secure as a group. I tired to quit facebook, really I did. Though the feeling of not knowing what others are doing, and just feeling left out of course made me go back. I am an addict, to facebook. That sounds silly but so much of us just don't realize that we can't get away from this. It's like heroin, or meth, or even tobacco and nicotine, just in digital form. Is there a cure? The reason I was 'qutting' facebook, was because I wanted to be an individual. And because in those terms and conditions facebook basically owns you. They own everything that you put up on facebook. And they can use your information for advertising, or selling to other online areas. I saw one of my friend's picture being used to advertise for some other social networking place. Would you want your face plastered all over the internet? I didn't, so I quit. Now here's the wierd bit. Facebook is like every stalker's dream. It is so easy to look at photos of your friend's friend. That is why people should probably consider the privacy settings. But I know, I am the biggest creeper on facebook. I love to know what people are doing in their lives, and what parties they went to, and so-forth. Anyways, I was suffering withdrawl symptoms and I went back to facebook. Now I am on it like everyday, just to see what people are up to- and because my school posts events on there. Facebook is addictive, and that is why it's so popular. We are just sheep in our society. I mostly talked about facebook, but twitter is the same thing. People should be aware what they are posting. Some people post things they are doing every minute, like "Going shopping", or "I am in the bathroom!" This makes it easy for a crime to be committed. There was a story on the news about a man who posted that he was goign to a party for the night. When he retured his house was breaking into, and he was robbed. So people have to be aware that what they are posting, could possibly cause them harm, and that there is a thing called being "too social."
-Amelia Chand saying don't stalk me on facebook. P.S. I don't know why the spces are so messed up.
